Hitcents develops Drawastickman.com, an innovative animation project
9.29.11- Bowling Green, KY- On September 16th, 2011, Hitcents launched its most recent animation project to display how creative interactivity and motion graphics can be developed using only Java-Script and SVG. A year project in development, Drawastickman.com was built with a sharing and viral strategy in mind. The sharing options were so successful, that to date, drawastickman has received over 5 million website views. Stickman has been tweeted, liked, emailed, blogged, posted, and shared so many times, both domestically and globally, that it has become a topic of interest in the social community.
Since launch, stickman has been nominated and awarded “Site of the Day” from The FWA Awards, The AWWWARDS | The CSS Awards and Designtaxi for its creativity. Additionally, it has been featured on Wired Magazine’s UK version, mentioned on Geekosystem, The Huffington Post, and Reddit, making it a virtual success overnight.
Phil Williams, the lead developer for the stickman project, sought to build a creative website that was unlike anything currently on the web for its programming language, mobile compatibility and originality. Working for a year through researching, prototypes, internal focus groups and numerous versions and revisions, stickman was a progressive project that was built on Hitcents’ mission to remain innovative in the industry.
Built entirely using the programming languages of Java-Script and Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), stickman was built to work on mobile devices, such as the iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows 7, etc. Having the ability to have the animation mobile was a set goal, allowing users to enjoy the interactivity not just on the web but anywhere.
Stickman provides the user the option to draw a stickman of any size or shape and sit back and watch their creation interact and move online. Filled with different scenes and tasks, stickman asks the user to draw various options to interact with different characters and situations. At the end of the animation, the user has the option to share stickman with their friends and customize a message for them that is revealed at the end of the animation. This is one of the biggest viral aspects of the project and allows for a global reach.
The project has been so successful, that a phase two development is in the works. Part of this is an online submission gallery for users to upload their most creative designs for a chance to be featured in the stickman gallery. Stickman is seen as a growing project that will continue to evolve over time.
